NEW YORK - The Mets have made a roster move.
The team has placed reliever Edwin Uceta on the IL with an ankle sprain and recalled starting pitcher Jose Butto from Triple-A Syracuse.
Butto will start for the Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field against the Washington Nationals. The righty is starting in place of the suspended Max Scherzer. Scherzer is serving a 10-game suspension for using sticky substances.
Since the Mets optioned him after his April 16 start, Butto could only be called up before the 15-day mark to replace an injured player.
Butto went five innings and allowed one run against the Oakland Athletics in his lone start on the season. The Mets are hoping for similar results against the Nationals.
Uceta made one appearance for the Mets and hurled three shutout innings with three strikeouts.
